Types of civil ships in shipbuilding
Research ships
Designed for various research works in the open seas and oceans. They include specially adapted and equipped surface and submarine vessels, bathyscaphes (deep water vehicles capable of moving underwater) and bathistats (vehicles lowered from the ship underwater on a cable).
Training vessels
They are used for sailing practice and are intended for students of navigation training institutions. These vessels are equipped with special laboratories, training rooms and auditoriums for practical mastering of the issues related to ship operation.
Special ships
These vessels are intended for ensuring normal and safe operation of all vessels in water areas. These vessels may be moving or stationary and, depending on their purpose, are subdivided into:
- hydrographic vessels intended for researching oceans and seas, collecting data for charting, navigation logs and notification of mariners of changes in local conditions, etc;
- pilotage, which maintains navigational markings of sea and road fairways in the state of operation;
- pilotage, which delivers and removes pilots from ships after they have navigated the fairway to the port or back;
- floating lighthouses - ships with lighthouse facilities (lights, radio signals and markings), which are anchored and mark the entrance to the fairway or a shallow place in the open sea;
- diving bots-vessels equipped to provide diving and underwater hydro-technical works;
- fire-fighting vessels, equipped with powerful fire-fighting and tide-extinguishing means to extinguish fires on ships and to pump water out of them.
